Amanda DeBell

Deputy Secretary for Teaching, Learning and Innovation, New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED)

Amanda DeBell is the Deputy Secretary of the New Mexico Public Education Department, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student-centered education. Her career in education spans various roles, including middle school teacher, assistant principal, principal at both middle and high school levels, and associate superintendent. Throughout her journey, Amanda has consistently advocated for the belief that students deserve to be seen as learners, and that educators should serve as models of learning, kindness, and community.

Originally from Colorado, Amanda attended the University of New Mexico. After completing her undergraduate studies at U.N.M., she returned to Colorado and earned her master's degree from the University of Colorado Denver in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in linguistically different students and bilingual education as well as her administrative license. Amanda’s love of the Land of Enchantment prompted her to return, and she now considers New Mexico her home. Her deep-rooted connection to the state and its educational community fuels her passion for enhancing public education in New Mexico.
