Mass Live – “The board of the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership voted on Tuesday to approve a contract with Boston-based UP Education Network, which aims to “restart” a yet-to-be named middle school as part of the zone’s plan to turn around eight failing middle schools. During the special meeting of the board held in downtown Springfield’s TDNorth building, Chris Gabrieli, founder of the non-profit Empower Schools and chairman of the empowerment zone, and Daniel Warwick, superintendent of Springfield schools, called the plan “ground-breaking.”
